Cognitone

Cognitone focusses on the application of artificial intelligence techniques to the composition of music. Our technology is able to understand and process music on the symbolic level. This approach opens up an entirely uncharted territory of new possibilities.

We consider Music Prototyping™ the most significant technological achievement since the introduction of digital samplers (approx. 1986) and software instruments (approx. 1996). For the first time ever, musical expressions of arbitrary origin can be combined freely and without effort. The meaning of Music Prototyping™ for music production is comparable to that of computer animation (CGI) for the movie industry: One uses a single agile model to render a multitude of different scenes.

This technology is useful for beginners and professionals alike. Entry level users easily get started with discovering the fascinating world of composition. Professional composers and producers facilitate their work and continously obtain fresh ideas and new inspiration. Our customers are creators of movie soundtracks, tv commercials, contemporary orchestral works, electronic music, rock/pop, jazz and songwriters of all styles.

Composition is Substance

As today almost every PC is able to produce a perfect sound, the musical substance behind it is increasingly becoming more important again. In order to stand out in the masses of good sounding but hollow productions, music needs catchy ideas and fresh motifs that are memorizable and - especially for movie scores - effectively underline the meaning of the pictures.

Company

Founder André Schnoor, an exprienced computer scientist and musician who specializes in artificial intelligence, started working on the core technology back in 1993 already. It took more than ten years to achieve commercial maturity. Cognitone was formally founded in order to create and distribute marketable products based on his technology.

By focussing on musical composition, Cognitone is positioned in a small but nice market niche. The interdisciplinary terrain around computer science, musicology, art and artificial intelligence requires a high level of scientific expertise. It is our goal to cover this field during the next years as widely as possible.

Technology

Our core technology is based on sophisticated algorithms for pattern recognition, structural analysis, knowledge-based transformation and an algebra for operating with musical expressions. Intelligent look-ahead computation allows for the operation in near real-time. As a result, this provides a solution for a problem which has been unsolved since the beginning of MIDI, more than 20 years ago: The automated recognition of the meaning behind musical performances.

This exciting technology is now available to all composers and ambitioned beginners at an affordable price.

We wish all creative musicians be successful and gain the recognition they deserve!
