Cognitone introduces a new generation of intelligent software for the composition of musical scores. Our technology actively supports the development of new ideas and greatly simplifies the creation of ambitious works, even for the beginner. Sooner or later, we will remove the barrier between imagination and reality.

We consider Music Prototyping the most significant technological achievement since the introduction of digital samplers (approx. 1986) and pure software instruments (approx. 1996). For the first time ever, musical works can be freely shaped in their entirety without the need to manually work out the details. Music Prototyping can do for music what CGI (computer animation) did for the movie industry.

On the one hand, our tools enable entry level composers to get started without requiring traditional notation skills. On the other hand, professionals benefit from extremely powerful tools, making their work more productive and fun. Our customers are creators of movie soundtracks, tv commercials, contemporary orchestral works, electronic music, rock/pop, jazz and songwriters of all styles.

Composition Is Much More Than Typesetting And Audio

For music software of any kind, it is common to claim that it helps you compose music. But this promise often looks like someone is selling a word processor and claiming it helps you write a bestseller novel. Software usually comes into play only after a composition is almost done. At the end of the day, one is either limited to preset "styles", or still has to compose the stuff manually, note by note.

Cognitone aims to close this gap and make the creative process of musical composition more transparent and accessible. We provide tools that really help you compose true musical works from scratch and continously outgrow yourself.

The Company

Our founder Andre Schnoor, an exprienced computer scientist and musician who specializes in artificial intelligence, conducted many years of research on computational composition techniques, and musical analysis. Back in 1993 already, he created the foundation of the core technology used today. It took more than ten years to achieve production quality. End of 2004, Cognitone was formally founded and started the production of its first products.

By focussing on musical composition, Cognitone positions itself in a small but beautiful niche. The interdisciplinary terrain between musicology, informatics, art and artificial intelligence involves high scientific requirements.

The Technology

Our core technology is based on sophisticated algorithms for pattern recognition, analysis, knowledge-based transformation and projection. Intelligent guessing and look ahead computation allows this rather complex system to operate in real-time. As a result, the system provides a solution for a problem which has been unsolved since the beginning of MIDI, more than 20 years ago: Automated understanding and re-interpretation of musical performances.
