These images are merely for a first impression. The Online User Manual includes a detailed description of all parts of Synfire.

Structure

The colored rectangles on top show the hierarchy of containers that make up your arrangement. Navigate your song by selecting any container. The phrases contained therein show up on the track sheet below.

Overview

The output of each Instrument is rolled out as a linear track here. A perspective you may be familiar with from your DAW. This map helps you navigate your song, while you immediately see where an instrument is affected by which container (Pro).

Snippets

Improvise with phrases in real-time! Populate a Snippet by dropping any phrase or parameter on a slot. Every Snippet you schedule for playback influences what is composed by Synfire in real-time (Express, Pro).

Phrase Editor

Edit all parameters in one view. The Figure parameter you see here isn't some fancy notation. It's an algorithm that gets interpreted by the instrument you assign it to.

Palette

Navigate the space of harmony in an intuitive way. Explore harmony ideas and edit the Harmony parameter of the currently selected container by dragging chords to the lane on top.

Progression

Edit the Harmony parameter of the currently selected container and adjust its verse metrics.

Harmonizer

Find chords and scales interactively that best match a given melody or other rendered notes. When ready, save the resulting Harmony parameter to the container.

Library

Libraries serve as a clipboard for parameters, phrases and ideas. Their items are browsed on the left sidebar. Edit them on the Library page and drop them in your arrangement anywhere you want (Express, Pro).

Factories

Generate unlimited parameters and phrases for your current project or collect them in libraries. The AI programming language KIM, developed by Cognitone specifically for this purpose, ensures musically meaningful expressions, rather than arbitrary randomness (Pro).

Matrix

The Matrix console is a switchboard for copying and moving parameters. Drag a parameter to any container or instrument, or drop it on another parameter type if you want to convert it.

Sounds

Every arrangement comes with a rack of sounds that can be used by its instruments. Global sounds can be shared by all arrangements. The Sound Assignment Wizard manages this rack for you, but you can also build it by dropping items from the left sidebar.
